Go to and do a search under 7x35 binoculars and you can find a myriad of binoculars from this era for sale. Other than hand me down significance, or lack there of, the binocular is likely not worth much more than $35-50. There were hundreds of companies like this, and it was a pretty common practice. My guess is that FM is one of those obscure outfits that did this. Others were made for a certain run for certain companies that had decided for whatever reason they wanted to sell a binocular with their name on it. JTTI specced lots of binoculars for lots of companies. Most are gone with the winds of history, likely including Mitsui and Ofuna, but they may still be around in some capacity.I don't know There were literally hundreds of Japanese firms involved here and while some were firms we know today, like Nikon and Kowa, others who still make binoculars for other companies like Kamakura, Tamron ,and Light Optical works evolved from that era and from some of those companies. I have never seen the FM brand, but this is from the days of the Japan Telescope Inspection Institute (JTII) which operated from late 1959 until about 1973 or thereabouts. ![]() JE 61 is Ofuna Kogaku Kogyo, the maker of the housing and metalworkĬompanies had to adhere to a pretty strict set of guidelines to qualify for the use of the JB and JE designations. JB 59 is Mitsui Kogaku Seisakujo, the maker of the binocular.
